Poem of the Week #28

Oh, before I forget to mention...Poem of the Week had it's first year anniversary on April 5th...yeah, I forgot about it until just now actually. This entire production has been in progress for the past year. Imagine that. Thanks to everyone who supported it and helped me write my poems. With the good and the bad, the beautiful and the ugly, the emotional and the odd, it's been great. Cheers, and to another year of poetry!

An open field…
With no roads, no paths, no signs.
A voice…faint, yet clear.
I can’t find it’s source.
The sun is shining, darkness is absent.
I see no one.
Nothing surrounds me but an open field.
The voice grows louder,
More forceful.
I want to help but I can’t.
A woman…a woman is the source.
I see an image far away,
The silhouette of a woman.
A woman that I used to know.
Her words are inaudible.
The tone is rank with fear.
The body starts to fill in without a face.
My mind spins around.
Insanity rushes to my brain
As I try to remember
As I try to help.
She’s still so far away
Yet she’s right inside my head.
Right inside my heart.
I begin to recall
An old face
An old feeling
An old friend, and so much more.
The words make sense now.
I hear what I’m most afraid of…

Nothing.

She remains at a distance.
I remain disappointed.
My feelings fade away
I still want to help.
She remains at a distance.
I remain disappointed.
I call out to her to help
A voice to guide her
Darkness is absent, the sun is shining
She doesn’t see me,
But I know she hears me.
She remains at a distance.
I remain disappointed.
Despite everything I have tried
Nothing is enough.
The face fills in…

She disappears.

The sun sets, darkness is everywhere.
I see no one.
I know she can hear me.
I know she can see me.
I know all that I need to.
In the darkness,
Everything is brighter than ever.
In the light, nothing is right.
My lips curl upward in the corners
Darkness is everywhere.
In my mind…the sun is shining.
She stands in an open field.
The sun is shining, but darkness isn’t absent.
She sees everyone,
Everyone sees her in the light.
In her heart…darkness is everywhere.
In the darkness…I can see clearly.
I can see everything in her heart.
I stand in an open field.
