Poem Of The Week #34

Ya know what sucks? My computer overheated...and now I can't access any of my poems. So, now I'm angry and upset and all pissed off. So I think it's time for a traditional "happy" poem of mine. Since my computer is broken, and since I have a promise to fulfill, here's a poem...about an umbrella.

The World pours down on me
Hardships fall just like rain
I'm drenched in failure,
Soaked to the bone in defeat.
My legs barely keep me standing
The dark circles under my eyes grow black
As I look into the people whom
I turned my back on.
Anger, hatred, vengence parades their faces
As they look me in my watery eyes.
I can't keep up the stare...
I look away, but the faces surround me.
I cannot turn to a place where the rain stops falling.
I won't catch a sickness, I've already got them all.
I'm too sick to become more ill...
If the rain keeps falling, I won't have illness to suffer.
I need a shelter from the rain...
When I look at you, when I think of you...
The fact is made clearer the more I see you:
You are my umbrella.
Won't you protect me...from the rain?

Anthony C, "Ode To An Umbrella"

OK...so, that COULD have been happier...but, ya know, I sorta wrote it on the spot and I'm sorta tired, so cut me some slack. I'm still pissed off about this computer shit breaking down on me. Anyway, hope it doesn't rain anytime soon, and if it does, don't forget to bring an umbrella!

Hope the requestee of this poem is sufficiently satisfied...this might be one of my strangest poems yet.

Poem Of The Week #33

Sorry, I know, I know, it's Thursday...but I've had a busy week, what with the Jury Duty and all. Anyway, here it is, though it's late:

Riding on a roller coaster
Up and down and everywhere in between
Life’s in a jumble, don’t know what to say
Half my face can’t stop laughing,
But the other half is drenched in tears.
Cursed for eternity by my genes,
Or is it my paranoia that gets me down?
I really don’t know anymore
And a piece of me is fine with that.
There’s something nagging at my skull
A monkey on my back that’s been there forever
I just never noticed it before
But it’s coming back to me
With every chance I take…it returns
I don’t know if I’ll ever reach a point of satisfaction
But I want more than that, more than godliness
This time, it does not end at omnipotence…
It ends at death.

Anthony C, "It Will Always Flow Within Me"

See you next week.

Poem Of The Week #32

Here it is, the poem for this week:

You look at the past, and you see only happiness
But you’re betrayed by your memories
Blinded by your desires
You’ve forgotten what it felt like
You thought you had it all, and you still think you did
But in the moment…in that moment
All you could see was the past and the future
You ignored the moment, let it slip through your fingers
You’re either too late, or far too early
Even in this moment, you savor yesterday
And look to tomorrow for salvation
Salvation isn’t a day away, it’s right in front of you
You’re looking straight ahead, and looking right behind you
But you’re standing on the answer
You’re searching your feelings and acting on impulses
Forgetting that it’s reason that guides us,
Reason that keeps us in check.
Without reason, impulse rides unfettered
Free to destroy the lives we’ve built up from the sand.
I’ve let impulse run free…and now I have to pick up the pieces.
Rebuild from the rubble everything I let it demolish.
Don’t belittle reason, don’t ignore it, pay attention.
Lift up your feet, and stop living in the past…
Keep heading to the future, but don’t obsess about it…
You’re standing on the answer…
Stop crushing the present.

See ya next week, and enjoy.

Poem Of The Week #31

Yeah, sorry, I've been really busy and I haven't gotten a chance to write much, so...I'll just put up this poem. Hope you enjoy it.

As I look up into the sky again
I see the face within the moon
Isolated in the cloudy sky
Stars surround him completely
But he does not know them,
They are not his friends,
Though their brilliance dangles
Right in front of his face.
Smoke and clouds envelope
All he knows…no truths exist
In his life. He’s alone.
He knows all the stars,
Yet knows nothing of them,
Nothing of who they are.
Likewise, they disregard him.
Why then…why is he smiling?
Every time I steal a glance,
I see a smile spread on his face.
Nothing in this world gets him down
Despite his isolation, despite his loneliness.
He shines for all to see…
This is the glory of the moon,
For all the burdens he faces,
He faces them with a smile.
Thus he shines brighter than any star
And thus, he has more notoriety.
The power of a smile is unfathomable…
All of the stars, despite their beauty,
Have not the capacity to smile,
And thus not the capacity for greatness.
The most powerful man in this world…
Is the man who greets all problems in life
With a smile and with confidence.
This man is a beacon of hope,
A source of inspiration,
A fountain of beauty.
This is the man within the moon.
